之所以谈这个话题,是因为Sir今天的课堂开启了本学期的教材教学不出意外的话,这也是Sir最后一次使用人教版老教材了随着时间流逝,业内对老教材的批判声渐起,感觉教材内的文章内容老旧,形式单调,语言贫乏,话题落伍,当年的教材编写已经无法满足现今的学生需求了。
Every thing that has a begin has an end。有始必有终,这是自然规律。和人一样,可以通过努力走向人生巅峰,但是巅峰之后自然慢慢会退出历史舞台,这是不变的事实。
老教材的退出,也必定迎来新教材的使用里面的话题更新颖,契合时间选材,比如新教材中开篇就是teenage life,以帮助学生适应高中生活;还有针对国庆节的旅行安排设计多模态语篇的使用,教材中出现很多网络页面,以此为载体让学生阅读语篇。
句型分析、音标教学的置前,帮助学生奠定较为良好的英语学习基础这种种改变都是新教材的进步,也必定更适合现今学生的学习需求然而我们依然无法否定老教材的经典事实上,随着Sir近些年对教学的思考逐渐深入,在每上一个单元的时候都能挖掘出曾经未有的发现。
这些发现促使Sir英语课堂内容更加丰富,学生的受触面更加广泛,他们不再只是接受单一割裂的语言,而是从不同的维度去思考文本承载的文化和思想,去领会作者写作文章时候采用的叙事手法等
人教版选修7Unit 3 Under the sea,单元主篇是由作家Clancy写的两篇Anecdotes组成,讲述了虎鲸帮助人类捕鲸的过程以及救助落水人类的故事一般我们会将这两个故事当成普通记叙文处理,但事实上,anecdote是属于记叙文的一种较为特殊的文体。
它频繁地出现在高考卷中,但却为我们所忽视,在教学中也没有多少体现其特点首先我们要知道什么是anecdote?中文翻译为“传闻、奇闻、趣事”英文解释为a usually narrative of an interesting, amusing, or biographical incident. 。
Anecdote is defined as a short and interesting story, or an amusing event, often proposed to support or demonstrate some point, and to make the audidence laugh. Anecdotes can include an extensive range of tales and stories. In fact, it is a short description or an account of any event that makes the readers laugh or brood over the topic presented for the purpose.
Anecdote也叫personal anecdote,指在作者写作中,引用个人的经历, 讲述在自己身上发生的故事,用来支持自己的论点这个故事的特点是interesting, amusing. 一般的anecdote有三种主要作用:。
1. evoke laughter; 2. present characters; 3. reveal a truth.第一种作用是引人发笑,这种作用也符合anecdote的特点,即interesting and amusing. 比如下面有关于巴尔扎克的一则anecdote:
Balzac, the famous French writer, was a man of great talent. But himself was proud of his ability to tell a persons character exactly by his handwriting. One day a woman friend brought him a young boys exercise book. She said that she wanted to know what Balzac thought of the boys character. Balzac studied the handwriting carefully for a few minutes. The woman, however, told him that the boy was not her son and that he might tell her the truth. "All right," said Balzac. "I shall tell you the truth." And he said that the boy was a bad, lazy fellow. "It is very strange," said the woman, smiling. "This is a page from your own exercise book, which you used when you were a boy."
这则轶事中,作者首先列出观点:巴尔扎克以通过人物笔迹来判定性格为傲他声称只要看到笔迹,任何人的性格他都可以判定随后有个女性朋友来找他,给了他一张纸让他判定巴尔扎克说从这张纸上我看到了这个孩子非常坏非常懒,结果这个女性朋友告诉他,这是巴尔扎克自己小时候的笔记。
读者透过该轶事便会莞尔一笑,也便达成了作者写这则anecdote的目的
第二种作用是凸显人物性格,比如我们来看爱因斯坦的一则anecdote:Albert Einstein: "There was something elusively whimsical about Einstein. It is illustrated by my favorite anecdoteabout him. In his first year in Princeton, on Christmas Eve, so the story goes,some children sang carols outside his house. Having finished, they knocked on his door and explained they were collecting money to buy Christmas presents.Einstein listened, then said, "Wait a moment." He put on his scarfand overcoat and took his violin from its case. Then, joining the children asthey went from door to door, he accompanied their singing of Silent Night onhis violin."
这则轶事中,作者首先列出关于爱因斯坦性格的观点:There was someting elusively whimsical about Einstein. 说爱因斯坦这人“异想天空、心血来潮的”在他晚年时候教书于普林斯顿期间,某年的平安夜一群学生到他门口大唱圣诞颂歌,随后敲开这位世界级物理学家的大门讨要一些钱买圣诞礼物。
然而爱因斯坦却转身从房内取出他的小提琴,戴上围巾穿上外套和这群学生一起去挨家挨户掏钱,学生唱歌他拉小提琴在旁伴奏从这则轶事中我们就可以看出爱因斯坦这位天才的whimsical的性格特点,率真随性,异想天空。
第三种作用是揭露事实,证明作者的猜想和观点,人教版选修7Unit3即为这种用法:第一则anecdote中,作者写道:I had heard of the killers that every year helped whalers catch huge whales. I thought, at the time, that this was just a story but then I witnessed it with my own eyes many times. 随后他便用故事来证实这个观点,虎鲸帮助捕鲸人猎杀鲸鱼,是人类的朋友。
在第二则anecdote中,作者写道:Although Old Tom and the other killers were fierce hunters, they never harmed or attacked people. In fact, they protected them. 此轶事的观点是虎鲸不仅不会伤害人,它们还会保护人类。
随后便用虎鲸救人的故事来证实这个观点
Anecdote文体的首段会陈述一个点,继而用interesting or amusing story去证实或阐明这个点Anecdote和高考也有紧密联系在新高考浙江卷的阅读理解第一篇中,有好几次出现了用anecdote来阐释人物特征。
最为明显的是2017年11月的高考读后续写A vacation with my mother首段写道:I had an interesting childhood. It was filled with surprises and amusements, all because of my mother---loving, sweet, yet absent-minded and forgetful. 这个点就表明了故事角色的人物性格:loving, sweet, absent-minded. 继而在后面的文章中读者依然可以感受到一丝幽默,比如作者写道两兄弟去加油站上厕所都不安心,生怕被这个糊涂的老妈给遗弃掉了。
所以从语言的协同上来讲,该文的续写学生最好采用的依然是轶事类文体这种轻松幽默的方式,而不是大量高大上语言的堆砌
如果学生了解Anecdote这种文体特点再去赏析Unit 3 Under the sea的这两则轶事,那么他们就会多一点欣赏的角度,多一点文体特点的思考,多一点作者写作目的的体会在以后日常生活的阅读中,也会多一份轻松吧。
