小表妹前几天发过来一件衣服的照片,问我怎么理解上面的这句英文:
我一看,发现这其实是两句话:① Time flies like an arrow.② Fruit flies like a banana.第一句 Time flies like an arrow.相信大家都看得懂,
arrow/ærəu/是“箭”,整句话表示“光阴似箭般飞快”那么第二句呢?是在说“水果像香蕉般飞”吗?No, no, no!这么理解逻辑上是说不通的,毕竟水果不会飞,香蕉也不会飞第二句话的真正意思是“果蝇喜欢吃香蕉”
,应该这么断句:fruit flies / like / a banana.fly即可作动词表示“飞”,也可以作名词表示“苍蝇”fruit flies是“果蝇”的复数这里面涉及到两个有趣的点,一个是断句梗
,一个是双关梗 断句梗 “断句梗”体现了断句的重要性,有时候一句话停顿的点不对,理解上就会产生歧义,中英文皆是如此举两个例子大家感受下:-你看我头像牛逼不?-像!Women without her man is nothing.。
中文大家应该很好理解里面的梗,但这句英文的你体会到了么?它可以有两种理解:Women, without her man, is nothing.没有其男人的女人,什么都不是Women! Without her, man is nothing.。
女人!没有她,男人什么都不是 双关梗 “双关语”在英语中的pun,通常是指利用一个单词的两个含义,或者利用两个特定的单词(比如发音相同或相似),达到“一语双关”的目的与之相似的是中文的谐音梗比如网上有个上过热搜的。
